Family Legacy
Lucien Day's legacy lives on not only through his paintings, but through the generations of family who continue to value creativity, Vermont, and the natural beauty that inspired so much of his work.
His daughter, Margot Mellett, known professionally as Margot Day, grew up in Craftsbury, Vermont, where her family's connection to the area spans approximately a century. Today, Margot and her husband, Kurtis Mellett, continue to live in Craftsbury and remain deeply connected to the community, landscape, and rural character of northern Vermont.
While Lucien Day expressed his creativity through painting, Margot followed a path in music as a singer, songwriter, flutist, and recording artist. At the same time, she has maintained an appreciation for the visual arts and continues to care for and share her father's artistic legacy.
Margot also has a collection of his paintings and plans to exhibit his artwork in future shows.
Together, Margot and Kurtis have spent decades building their lives in Craftsbury, raising their family, pursuing creative interests, and appreciating the forests, fields, lakes, and working landscapes that make this corner of Vermont unique.
The story of Lucien Day is ultimately not only one of art, but of family, place, creativity, and the enduring connection between generations who have called Craftsbury home.
